Janumet 50/1000 Mg 56 Tablets
Janumet 50/1000 mg Tablets (56 tablets) is a prescription medication for adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains two active ingredients: sitagliptin (50 mg) and metformin hydrochloride (1000 mg) per tablet.

Description

Red, capsule-shaped, film-coated tablet with “577” debossed on one side
Indications
-
Used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycaemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are inadequately controlled on their maximal tolerated dose of metformin alone or those already being treated with the combination of sitagliptin and metformin

Can be used in combination with a sulphonylurea, a PPARγ agonist (thiazolidinedione), or insulin if further glycaemic control is needed
Dosage and administration

The usual dose is one tablet taken twice daily with meals

Tablets should be swallowed whole with water and not split, crushed, or chewed

Dosage should be individualized based on the patient’s current regimen, effectiveness, and tolerability

Maximum recommended daily dose: 100 mg sitagliptin and 2000 mg metformin

Take with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects
Contraindications

Renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73 m²)

Acute or chronic metabolic acidosis, including diabetic ketoacidosis

History of a serious hypersensitivity reaction to sitagliptin or Janumet

Risk of lactic acidosis, a rare but serious complication

Assess renal function before starting and periodically during treatment

Not for use in patients with type 1 diabetes or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis

Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, loss of appetite

Headache, upper respiratory tract infection

Low blood sugar (especially if used with insulin or sulfonylureas)
